The Contractors Health & Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS) is perhaps the best known standard within the construction industry and is also among the hardest to obtain.

It is one of our most recent accreditations and having already obtained SAFE Contractor status, we were able to prove compliance through Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP), whose logo appears on our CHAS certificate.

The scheme currently encompasses 89 sections which are independently assessed every three years. In addition, 23 of these sections are assessed on an annual basis. BS EN ISO 9001 is the quality system relating to critical business procedures and tasks. It is an internationally recognised standard that is considered a pre-requisite by most private and public sector organisations in Europe.

BS EN ISO 9001 requires Charter Security to carefully audit our own operating procedures and hold Management Review Meetings to discuss and update our objectives and targets twice a year.

In order to support their own environmental policies, most public sector organisations now only employ the services of security companies with 14001.

BS EN ISO 14001 seeks to limit and control the impact companies have upon the environment. The standard does this by requiring a wide ranging environmental management system. This encompasses a large number of areas from waste paper and computer supplies to vehicle fuel and the Company's heating and lighting systems.

Charter Security is committed to the environment and has been accredited under BS EN ISO 14001 since 2009.

Like BS EN ISO 14001, most larger organisations will now only deal with security companies with 18001. In addition, BS OHSAS 18001 regularly appears in Pre-Qualifying Questionnaire's (PQQ's) and security tenders.

The standard was introduced to ensure that companies have procedures in place to support both governmental legislation and their own internal rules and regulations. The reporting of incidents and accidents is also audited under the standard.

Charter has been accredited to BS OHSAS 18001 since 2009.

Charter is one of London and the South East's foremost security companies with PAS 99 Specification of Common Management System Requirements as a Framework for Integration. This is essentially an umbrella accreditation that deals with all common areas of BS EN ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001.

Any future ISO accreditations sought by Charter Security in these three standards are also covered by PAS 99. Accreditation to PAS 99 demonstrates that a company has evolved from operating a Quality Management System (QMS) to an Integrated Management System (IMS) encompassing BS EN ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001.
